A new Police Officer was sworn in at Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting. Isaac Smith was sworn in by City Clerk Carla Huhn at Monday’s meeting. With the recent retirement of Officer Robb Blackerby, it opened up a spot for Smith as the next individual up on the Police Eligibility list. Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman pointed out Officer Smith is carrying on a law enforcement tradition in his family as his Grandfather was an Illinois State Trooper and his father is retired Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith.
Meanwhile, Mayor Gottman also pointed out a payment in the special bills for the meeting to the City of Greenville for $12,757.38. Mayor Gottman says that is reimbursement to the City of Greenville for money they have paid for Officer Smith’s training. Mayor Gottman said the city would have had to pay for this anyway and they want to keep good relationships with neighboring communities by refunding the money.
