A public hearing will be held today concerning a proposed Waste Transfer Station in Fayette County. The hearing will get underway at 1pm at the Vandalia Moose Lodge with basic meeting procedures such as roll call of the county board and the Pledge of Allegiance. County Board Chairwoman Jenny Waggoner will then introduce the moderator for the hearing to be followed by a review of the procedures to be followed and rules for the hearing and for the public comments period to be held during the hearing. Chris Sutter, the applicant for the Waste Transfer Station will then have up to two and a half hours to make a presentation to the board about the transfer station. Following Sutter’s time, two separate presentations will be given by counsel for entities opposing the transfer station. Each of those presentations will be given up to two and a half hours as well for their presentations. Following the three presentations, the floor will be opened for public comments with each person being allowed no more than 5 minutes to speak and may only speak one time during the public comment period. Following the public comment period, Sutter will be allowed to give closing comments lasting no more than 15 minutes and any written comments regarding the site application for the facility will be received by the board before the hearing is adjourned. Depending on the length of the hearing and if it has not concluded by 6pm, the Chairwoman may put the hearing in Recess at which time it would be reconvened and continued at 9am on Thursday, November 11. For anyone attending the hearing, regardless of if they wish to speak or not, it is stated in the rules that “Audience members must be seated and quiet, loitering in the hearing room is prohibited. Any person who is unruly, disrupts or attempts to disrupt the hearing or otherwise engages in inappropriate behavior will be expelled.
