Although there have been many not happy with the process of drawing new legislative maps this year in Illinois, and even more unhappy with the re-drawn maps—the second drawing of the maps does look to be a benefit for Fayette County.
The original legislative maps released in the spring had Fayette County in 2 different State Senate Districts and 3 different State Representative Districts. In the second drawing, the entire county looks to be in just one district. The new 55th Senate District would include all of Fayette County, stretch to the southwest to Nashville, to the east all the way to east of Olney and to the west to Edwardsville. The new 110th Representative District would include all of Fayette County, stretch south to just south of Salem and to the east to the east of Olney. It would appear the current representatives for Fayette County—State Senator Jason Plummer and State Representative Blaine Wilhour—would live in the new 55th and 110th. Senator Plummer lives in Edwardsville but has his district office in Vandalia and Representative Wilhour is a Fayette County native and resident.
