
Linda Carol Knebel, 83, of Mulberry Grove, IL passed away at 1:15 PM, Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. James Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Brad Frye officiating. Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery, Pittsburg. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2021, prior to services at the church. Mrs. Knebel was born on December 06, 1937 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Harms) Arndt. She married Robert Lee “Bob” Knebel on July 12, 1958; together they raised their three sons and celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing on January 16, 2019.
Linda was a retired bus driver for Vandalia Community Schools. She served as organist for St. James Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years in addition to playing the piano and organ for hundreds of weddings and funerals throughout the area. She also served as the official scorekeeper for the Women’s Softball League for many years. Linda was an avid bowler, never missed a grandchild’s school or sporting event, and was always willing to lend her husband a helping hand on the family farm.
Linda is survived by her sons, Richard Knebel and wife, Carla of Vandalia, Steve Knebel and wife, Laurna of Mulberry Grove, and Doug Knebel and wife, Theresa of Vandalia; grandchildren, Keely Nelson (Dan), Travis Knebel (Emily), Cameron White (Brittany), Brooke Renfrow (Tanner), Ashley Knebel-Crayne (Paul), Christopher Knebel (fiancé, Faye), Will Knebel, Samuel Knebel, and Haydn Knebel; 14 great-grandchildren; and her half siblings, Ruth Anne Garrison, Edna Mae Alton, and Jill Graumenz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Lucas Jacob Knebel; siblings, Mildred Elam, Carl Arndt, Etta Plank, George Arndt, Laverne Arndt and Elsie Ewers; and half-siblings, Larry Arndt, Russell Arndt, Donald Arndt, William Arndt, and Jack Arndt.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care for their care of Linda throughout the past several years.
