(Springfield, IL) — Two Illinois women are among caregivers from across the country rallying in Washington, DC for the rights of long-term care recipients. Carrie Leljedal and Julie Lewis met with Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood and staff members for Congressman Rodney Davis Tuesday to discuss the Essential Caregivers Act. The women also spoke out with others in favor of the bill yesterday morning on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. The ECA would allow long-term care residents to have a designated essential caregiver who could access their facility and advocate for their needs, even during times of medical isolation such as the pandemic.
