Harry E. Michel, son of the late Henry Michel and Theresa Kastner Michel Ehlert was born on August 6, 1923 in Gatch, Illinois and departed this life on May 17, 2021 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center at the age of 97.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Michael Mohr and Pastor Justin Sponaugle officiating. Interment with follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Military Rites accorded at the graveside by Brownstown V.F. W. Post #9770 and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation, or to the donor’s choice. Mr. Michel was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was a current member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter and had formerly attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Illinois for a number of years. He was a member of the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95. In his free time, he liked working on and restoring lawn mowers.
He was united in marriage to Dolores Oertwig on June 25, 1950 in Shobonier, Illinois. Mrs. Michel preceded him in death on April 5, 2013.
He is survived by daughter, Susan and husband Kennie Moeller of Dexter, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kevin and wife Lendsay Moeller of Aiken, South Carolina and Elizabeth Hayes of Richlands, North Carolina; and three great-grandchildren, Braden and Chandler Moeller both of Aiken, South Carolina and Christine Hayes of Richlands, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Randy Michel; three brothers, Alvin Michel, Victor Michel and Norman Michel; sister, Gladys Fisher; and grandson in law Gregg Hayes.
