Three people were injured in a 2-vehicle accident on Thursday on Interstate 70 in Fayette County.
Illinois State Police reports say the accident occurred on Thursday night at 8:59 pm on Interstate 70 westbound at milepost 58–which is 3 miles west of the west Vandalia exit. Illinois State Police reports say a vehicle driven by 36 year old William N. Free of Champaign was traveling westbound on I-70. A vehicle driven by 54 year old Duan R. Travis of St. Louis, Missouri was directly in front of Free’s vehicle. Travis slowed down in traffic for an unknown reason and struck in the rear by Free’s vehicle. Travis was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. Free and a passenger, 29 year old Natalie Free of Champaign, were both transported by ambulance for an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Police say that 36 year old William N. Free was issued citations for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance. 54 year old Duan R. Travis was issued citations for Driving While License Revoked and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance.
