The Vandalia Historical Society has recently acquired the original copies of two historic maps of this area from the early 1800’s–before Illinois was a state. Local Historian Dale Timmermann talks about the history of the maps, which was owned by a Fillmore man but had not been seen for around 50 years.
But, Timmermann said the mystery of what happened to the maps changed recently when Hollywood, California collectibles dealer Mike Deshaies contacted the Hills Fort Society.
And, As Timmermann said, he was able to get a local anonymous donor to come up with the funds to purchase the two historic maps. Tomorrow during NewsCenter, Timmermann will talk more about the historical significance of these maps.
