A 46 year old Vandalia man is facing a charge of Threatening a Public Official. 46 year old Robert A. Ward has been charged with Threatening a Public Official. Information on the charge states that Ward is alleged to have knowingly delivered a verbal statement, that was a threat, to Vandalia Police Office Jake Etcheson. The information states that “containing a threat that would place the public official in reasonable apprehension of immedate or future bodily harm.” The information says the alleged threat was made because of “hostility of the defendant toward the position of Officer Jake Etcheson.” The charge is a Class 3 Felony. Ward was also charged with Resisting a Peace Officer, which is a Class A misdemeanor. Ward is set to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 9th.
