Helen Virginia (Curry) Smith, age 96, of Edgewood, Illinois passed away at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital, Effingham, Illinois.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Farina Cemetery. Mike Durre will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Helen was born November 23, 1922, in Farina, Illinois, the daughter of Arch Glen and Rose May (Houston) Curry. She was the only daughter and the youngest of five children. She married James H. “Smitty” Smith on February 4, 1946, in Blytheville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1975. Together they ran a water well drilling company and Bare Hand Ranch raising angus cattle. She continued to run the ranch after her husband’s death with the help of Bud Post, Cy Jahraus, and Bill Robertson. She was a past member of the Edgewood Lion’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Rose May Curry; husband, James Smith; four brothers, George, Glen, Charles and Robert (who passed in infancy). She leaves behind close friends along with a few distant relatives.
