
Gwendolyn A. Caldwell, 91, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 8:05 PM, Friday, January 25, 2019 at Willowbrook Memory Care in Vandalia.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at The First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia with Reverend Kurt Simon officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Grove Cemetery, Kell, IL. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at The First Presbyterian Church. Gwendolyn A. Caldwell was born on March 23, 1927 in Farina, IL, the daughter of Harry and Frieda (Bauman) Crosley. She married John R. Caldwell on November 5, 1949 in Henderson, KY; he preceded in death on June 16, 2009. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage and raised five children. Gwen was the former owner/operator of Vandalia Furniture, Western Auto in Vandalia, and Model Clothing Store in Vandalia. She was also a former grade school teacher in the Edgewood, Staunton, and Brownstown schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia where she was active in various groups in the church including Presbyweds, member of Soroptomist International, and Vandalia’s Women’s Club, charter member of Friends of Old Capitol, was a girl scout leader for many years, and was very supportive of John’s involvement with the Fayco-Board of Directors.
Mrs. Caldwell is survived by her daughters, Trudy and husband Corwyn Fogler, Farina, IL and Alice and husband Phil Stock, St. Peter, IL; sons, Doug Caldwell and wife Martha, Warson Woods, MO, Ted Caldwell and friend Shirley, Mulberry Grove, IL, and Andy Caldwell and wife Connie, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Craig Fogler, Jessica and husband Jason Kesterson, John Caldwell and wife Kristan Vitalich, Laura and husband Tim Skuran, Ben Caldwell and wife Melissa, Jamie and husband Aaron Roach, Chris Caldwell and wife Lauren, Samantha and husband Nolan Osborne, Brittany Caldwell, Taylor Caldwell, Molly and husband Adam Braun, Alex Stock and wife Lacy, Sam Stock and wife Shayla, and Ross Stock; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carroll Crosley and wife Wyona, Columbia, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Wayne Marshall.
