Two Vandalia men are being held in the Fayette County Jail on pending charges of burglary after they allegedly led area police on a multiple hour search southwest of Ramsey on Sunday morning. 40 year old James D. Longwell and 46 year old William J. Nordyke, both of Vandalia, are both being held in the Fayette County Jail today on a pending charge of burglary. Following the alleged burglary, the two individuals are alleged to have ran and led to a long search on Sunday morning in the wood areas southwest of Ramsey. Just before noon, Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith announced the two individuals were in custody. On the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Sheriff Smith stated he wanted to thank the Vandalia Police Department, Illinois State Police and Air Ops, Secretary of State Police and Conservation Police for their help in the search. WKRV-WPMB had been sharing information with the public on Sunday morning, warning of the two individuals who were said to be wearing camouflage and allegedly armed with a handgun. Sheriff Smith also said he wanted to thank the public for their help in the apprehension.
As for Longwell and Nordyke, both are currently charged with Burglary in the matter—but more charges could be pending. Both would presumably appear today in Fayette County Court.
