The Kaskaskia River in Vandalia has continued to come down over the past few days. But, it will be heading back up later this week. As of 9:30 pm Tuesday night, the river was at 21.9 feet–which is nearly 4 feet above the river’s 18 foot flood stage. but, that level is down significantly from where it was on Monday morning. The waters receding has brought down the flooding on the town branch, although fields around the river are underwater after the river’s levee was overtopped in several spots.
As for the remainder of the week, the river is now expected to fall just below 18 feet on Wednesday, but will go back up from there and will crest on Saturday at 26.2 feet. That level leads to more flooding on the town branch and could overtop the Diveley and Vandalia levees
