The high levels of the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia continue, but it looks like the river will now begin to come down. As of 8 pm last night, the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia was at 26.2 feet—that is better than 8 feet above the river’s 18 foot flood stage. Early yesterday, water began to come over the levee just to the south of the bridge at U.S. Route 51 and U.S. Route 40, which filled the ditch area next to Route 51 but does relieve some of the water building up in the river. The river is now expected to start coming down and is next expected to drop below flood stage on Wednesday afternoon.
