Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Unity Baptist Church, 6th. Street Location, Vandalia, IL, with Rev. Robert Weaver, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Church. She was born, February 11, 1931, in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of John Alexander and Rosa Fern (Carson) Merriman. Rosie married Dennis Edward Gerkin Sr., June 3, 1948, Corinth, MS, he passed away January 11, 2010. She was retired Owner/Operator of Rosie’s Shoes, Vandalia, IL; a member of Unity Baptist Church, Vandalia Country and Golf Club, Women of the Moose and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority-organized and narrated “Smurf Hollow” in Vandalia Park.
She is survived by: Son – Jim Gerkin & Rosalie, Germantown, IL;
Daughter in-law – Tricia Gerkin, Vandalia, IL; Brothers – Rev. James Merriman, Saraland, AL and Dr. Tim Merriman & Lisa, Captain Cook, HI; Grandchildren – Lori Pattillo, Alicia King, Brandi Romero, Dennis Gerkin III, Ashley Smith & Alex Gerkin and 17 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Husband, Son – Dennis Gerkin, Jr.
