Bob F. Durbin, 88, of Vandalia passed away on November 20, 2016 at his home.
Services for Mr. Durbin will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00am, prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in McInturff Cemetery, rural Vandalia with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Legion Post #95 or First United Methodist Church Vandalia. Bob was born April 23, 1928 in Brownstown, the son of Hencil and Bertha (Diveley) Durbin. He married Jean Coburn on September 10, 1950, she preceded in death February 28, 1978. Bob served in the US Army during the Korean War, he was deployed overseas from 1951-1952. After returning home he worked as an oil well operator and later a supervisor for LB Hoss Oil in St. Elmo. He married Eva Ruppe Cearlock on November 28, 1980, she resides in Vandalia. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vandalia and Vandalia American Legion Post #95, he held various offices at the OKAW Saddle Club and was active there for over 40 years. Bob was a volunteer for the American Legion Honor Guard, Meals on Wheels, and was a bus driver for Evergreen Outreach. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Eva Durbin of Vandalia, sons Scott Durbin and wife Kathy of Owaneco, IL and Max Durbin and wife Debbie of Vandalia; stepsons Lundy Cearlock and wife Debbie of Paducah, KY, Mike Cearlock of Grand Rapids, MI, Joe Cearlock and wife Sandra of Vandalia; stepdaughter Jill Miller of St. Louis; grandchildren Matt (Lisa) Durbin, Adam (Kylee) Durbin, John (Kelcey) Mars, Seth (Claralyn) Mars, Jordan Mars, Kiley (Shane) Depew, Brandi (Clayton) Gathe, Jamie (Lucas) Cearlock, Lacie (Travis) Donaldson, Coy (Emily) Bunyard, Ty (Leah) Bunyard, Ben Cearlock, Jaxon Cearlock, Sarah (Chris) Wilguess, Sam Cearlock, and Stone Cearlock; and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean Durbin, daughter Chris Mars, and brother Kenneth Durbin.
