The first ever trip to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Kaskaskia College softball program history has come to an end. After a win and a loss on Wednesday, the Blue Angels were sent into the elimination bracket where one more loss would end KC’s season. The Blue Angels opened Thursday with a 6-4 win over Angelina after taking an early 5-1 lead after the first two innings and staving off a late comeback attempt. That win moved KC into a matchup with Seminole State where the Blue Angels gave up a 3-run third inning and a 4-run fifth inning to trail 7-2 before falling 8-2 to drop them out of the double elimination tournament. KC finishes the National Championship Tournament at 2-2 and the season at 49-18.
KC sophomore and former South Central standout Sydnee Garrett went 2-4 with a run and 2 RBI in the first game of the day and 0-2 with two walks during the second game. Across four games in the tournament, Garrett batted .273 (3-11) with 2 runs, 3 walks and 3 RBI. She also pitched 7 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.
